Minnesota winters.

School closings due to weather are a part of living in Minnesota! While kids may like the magic of an unexpected day at home with fun outdoor snowy adventures, an unexpected school closing may create challenges for parents. In order to prepare for this possibility, please read below to know what to expect from Butterfly Hill with weather related school closings. Reviewing this now may help us each be better prepared with a back up plan for potential late starts, early closings, and closures of school. While this doesn’t happen often most winters, it is nice to know what to do if weather impacts schools.

We follow District 206.

Butterfly Hill follows School District 206 with their weather related late starts, early closings, and school closures. Whenever 206 posts a late start, early closure, or school closure due to weather, Butterfly Hill follows the same plan.

If District 206 has a two hour late start due to weather, BHNP does as well. What does this look like? Our earliest Extended Day kiddos normally start their day at 7:15. This means that if there is a two hour late start due to weather, 9:15 is the starting time that day. If your child attends a Full Day class that normally begins at 8:00, your day will also begin at 9:15. If your child attends our Half Day class, you are more than welcome to attend beginning at 9:15 until the regular pick up time at 11:30.

If District 206 has an early closure, they typically schedule these for after lunchtime. These closing times vary according to the school and bus routes. While BHNP will have an early closure whenever 206 does, our closing time may vary from District 206 schools. Our early closing time is typically around 12:00 -12:30, but varies according to the weather and road conditions.

If District 206 is closed due to weather, BHNP will be closed as well.

How do I know?

How do you hear about weather related closings or delays? When BHNP staff are informed about a District 206 closing or delay, we will inform you with an Alert message in Brightwheel. An Alert message means that Brightwheel will send all families a text message prompting you to check Brightwheel for a timely message. You also can listen for information coming from District 206. They post on their website, announce on the radio stations, and all the major Twin Cities TV networks also post the weather related closings or delays on their websites.
