Minnesota winters.
Weather-related school closings are a part of life in Minnesota! While kids may like the magic of an unexpected day at home with fun outdoor snowy adventures, sudden closures can be challenging for families. To help you plan ahead, please read below for what to expect from Butterfly Hill in the event of late starts, early dismissals, or full-day closures. While this doesn’t happen often most winters, reviewing this information now can help everyone be better prepared.
We follow Alexandria Public Schools.
Butterfly Hill follows Alexandria Public Schools (APS) for weather-related late starts, early dismissals, and school closures. Whenever APS posts a late start, early closure, or full-day closure due to weather, Butterfly Hill follows the same schedule.
Late Start: If APS has a two-hour late start, Butterfly Hill classes will also start two hours late. Since our earliest class - Early Birds - begins at 7:15, BHNP will open at 9:15. All classes (Early Bird, Half Day, Full Day, Extended Day) will start at this time, and families are welcome to drop off any time at or after 9:15 AM.
Early Closure: APS early closures are typically scheduled after lunchtime, but exact times vary by school and bus routes. BHNP follows APS closures, but our dismissal time may differ slightly. Early dismissals at BHNP usually occur between 12:00-12:30 PM, depending on weather and road conditions.
Full-Day Closure: If APS is closed due to weather, BHNP will also be closed.
How do I know?
How do you hear about weather-related closings or delays? When BHNP is notified of an Alexandria Public Schools closing or delay, we send an Alert message via Brightwheel. This sends a text to families prompting you to check Brightwheel for details. You also can listen for information coming from APS. They post on their website, announce on the radio stations, and all the major Twin Cities TV networks also post the weather related closings or delays of school districts on their websites.
